Startup Stories

How can you get the most of your vehicle when you decide to take part in a startup?

Having a car, a bike, a bicycle or a scooter doesn’t have to be all about spending money on it. Thanks to all kinds of startups popping up like mushrooms and mobile apps for all types of services, you can make some money on everything and with everything. It doesn’t matter if you have an old bike (as long as it’s working), your father’s car or you decide to get a rental, you have lots of different opportunities to use it for profit. It is enough to bring up some bigger players like Uber, Uber Eats or Shipt, not to mention companies that allow you to rent a car to drive it for profit.

So what are some of your possibilities to make money with your vehicle?

1. Share your car

If you need a car, but you feel like you can’t afford it with your current earnings and needs, you have a couple of options. You can either offer to carpool with your coworkers or even strangers or offer your car to other people while you’re not using it. If you only drive your car three or four days a week, you can find those who would like to rent it for the rest of the time, e.g., locals who don’t own a car or tourists who don’t want to mix up with classic rental companies.

Examples:

  • Turo
  • Getaround
  • Maven
  • HyreCar – here, you don’t only have a possibility to share your car, but also to rent someone else’s car if you don’t own one, but want to, for example, drive for Uber
  • To share your bicycle: Spinlister

2. Deliver food

These apps have become especially popular because they simply make things easier. There’s no need for you to call and list everything you want to order. The risk of any kind of mixup is much lower because all the necessary information is visible in the app for both you and the restaurant. You can save your credit card details so that you won’t have to enter the numbers each time you order, and you don’t have to worry about cash to give to the delivery guy.

There are multiple apps that offer food delivery from various restaurants and they can have different payment policies regarding their drivers so check several to find the one most suited for you.

You can also deliver food with your bike, not only a car.

Examples:

  • Uber Eats
  • DoorDash
  • Grubhub
  • Bite Squad

3. Deliver groceries

Not everyone has time to shop for groceries regularly because of their work or other responsibilities. There are also people who may find it too challenging or impossible due to various health problems and have no one to turn to for help. If you want to apply to work for a delivery service app, you can either shop for groceries and deliver them to someone’s door, or you can work in-store preparing the orders to be delivered.

You can also deliver groceries on your bike.

Examples:

  • Instacart
  • Shipt

4. Rideshare

These apps have become so popular that they seriously aggravated the taxi companies and drivers. Doing everything through your mobile phone is much easier and more comfortable than it used to be when you had to call a cab and pay only in cash. As a ridesharing driver, you will probably have to pay some fare, but you will make a profit on incentives, rewards programs and fees. Of course, you will have to adjust to rush hours if you want to have plenty of clients, but apart from that, you can work according to your own schedule.

Examples:

  • Uber
  • Lyft
  • Wingz

5. Help people move

If you don’t mind picking up and carrying stuff (sometimes heavy), you may offer your car and services to help people move or transport bigger items. A lot of people will prefer to hire someone like you rather than turning to a removal company.

Examples:

  • TaskRabbit
  • DIY Moving Help

6. Bike to make money

There are apps that will pay you money for riding your bike around the city. It’s possible to make up to $300 monthly so it may be the perfect option if you already move around the city on your bike. All you have to do is attach an ad to your bike and you can stay fit, breathe fresh air, commute and make money, all at the same time.

Examples:

  • Ridevert

Let your vehicle pay for itself

Do you feel inspired yet? As you can see, neither your car nor bike needs to only generate more and more costs. There are some simple ways to use it for profit (apart from selling it) or you can even think about starting your own business. Food delivery, ridesharing, working part-time as a courier – possibilities are plenty. And you can always come up with something new.
